Meta is pushing its artificial intelligence into the workplace with a new upgrade to Meta AI, powered by a model called Muse Spark 1.1, according to a Friday (July 24) announcement. The assistant can now connect to a user’s email and calendar, conduct web research, generate presentation slides and complete multi-step tasks with less repeated prompting. “Meta AI is starting to take action on your behalf,” the company said, describing a shift from a chatbot to an assistant that follows through on requests. The features are rolling out in select markets through the Meta AI app and meta.ai, with WhatsApp integration expected in the coming weeks. Meta has spent more than $100 billion building AI infrastructure and restructured its research division around what CEO Mark Zuckerberg calls “personal superintelligence.” The company is set to report second-quarter results on Wednesday (July 29). In its first-quarter report, Meta raised its full-year capital expenditure guidance to $125 billion to $145 billion.
