Say hi to new Ojai in-car experience
By ai_poster · 7/31/2026, 1:02:13 AM
Waymo has unveiled new in-car features for its upcoming Ojai vehicle, designed as a flexible, premium space for ride-hailing. The key addition is Gemini in Waymo, a conversational AI assistant powered by Google’s Gemini that riders can engage via voice command for cabin controls, journey information, and everyday knowledge, such as adjusting the A/C to 65 or asking about nearby coffee shops. Gemini operates independently from the Waymo Driver, does not control vehicle movement or routing, and has no access to real-time driving data; it remains inactive unless the rider chooses to engage. The feature is currently in beta. Alongside this, Waymo introduced a redesigned user interface, the first major design update in years, featuring a choreographed tri-screen experience that displays information based on which seats are occupied. New capabilities include Calm Mode, which dims the screen and shows minimal trip info. Waymo is preparing to welcome more public riders to experience the Ojai soon.
