Meta’s Path To AI Relevance, According To Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth
By ai_poster · 7/10/2026, 3:52:10 PM
Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth stated that the era of big monolithic models is over and the battle over AI product has begun, emphasizing that having a state-of-the-art model alone does not guarantee success. In an interview on Big Technology Podcast, Bosworth said Meta’s advantage relative to competitors like Apple, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google lies in connecting a model with product, distribution, and consumer experience. He noted Meta has struggled to build its own frontier model and is now renting models from some competitors to build “personal superintelligence.” The company released a new model, Muse Spark 1.1, which it says is competitive on leading benchmarks at a lower cost than its rivals. Bosworth explained that Meta’s gap in frontier models stemmed from Llama 3 pulling forward all future bets, leaving no pathfinding for Llama 4, resulting in being behind on reasoning, mixture of experts, and other critical technologies. This led to Mark shifting from viewing AI as “one of our bets” to “AI is foundational to the entire company,” with him going “founder mode” to secure compute resources.
