A recent YouGov survey commissioned by Mashable found that the majority of U.S. adults have used an AI chatbot like Claude or ChatGPT. To understand specific use cases, Mashable interviewed three very different people: a grandmother, an entrepreneur, and a technologist. Barbara, 71, a former educator, used ChatGPT last fall with her son and daughter-in-law to help determine whether her grandson, who has a learning disability, was achieving learning goals set by his school district. The family uploaded all paperwork, including grades, test scores, and cognitive assessments, and the model also considered the state's education disability law and the Department of Education's Individuals with Disabilities Education Act handbook. ChatGPT sided with Barbara and her family, who felt better prepared for the discussion of her grandson's services. The family also hired an education advocate, and Barbara's grandson kept his classroom support.
