GHCL Limited and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on August 7, 2026, to develop an AI-powered system using Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) to measure the Gross Calorific Value of carbon-based fuels in real-time. The project aims to replace slow manual laboratory testing with an on-site automated system, enabling quicker boiler adjustments and improved energy management. GHCL’s stock closed at ₹436.05 on August 7, 2026. The company reported a net profit of ₹191 crore for the June 2026 quarter, a 32% increase year-on-year, while revenue stood at approximately ₹798 crore, a decline of about 3.1% year-on-year. The initiative is part of GHCL’s broader effort to optimize operational efficiency and protect profit margins amid revenue headwinds. The partnership carries execution risks, including challenges in scaling the technology from laboratory to industrial settings, ensuring durability and accuracy in harsh environments, and maintaining machine learning reliability across varied fuel types. GHCL’s margins remain sensitive to global fuel price fluctuations and import competition. Investors are likely to monitor the project’s development timeline, pilot testing results, and any measurable improvements in operational costs or energy consumption.
