Meta's Muse Image: When Your Face Becomes an AI Prompt
By ai_poster · 7/15/2026, 7:35:11 PM
Meta introduced Muse Image last week, the first image-generation model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, integrated with Meta AI, which created a furore worldwide for its ability to generate AI images using photos from public Instagram accounts. If a user’s profile was public, another user could tag that account and use their images as part of an AI generated creation, with the only exceptions being private accounts and accounts belonging to users under 18. An opt-out feature existed, requiring users to actively go through steps to opt out, described as deliberate friction by design. The article notes that Indian courts are full of pending cases and interim orders establishing personality rights for well-known celebrities, but this ignores ordinary people whose public image may be used to create sexualised or fraudulent content. The issue is product design that assumes public visibility is sufficient basis for treating information as raw material for training AI models, a harder question with no apparent harm visible today but ripe for future exploitation. The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 is noted as relevant but not fully operational yet.
