Radio Kuwait is using artificial intelligence to revive traditional Kuwaiti folk music in a contemporary format for wider international audiences, Director General of the General Administration of Radio Kuwait Dr Yousef Al-Sari said on Friday. Speaking to KUNA, Al-Sari said AI provides tools to reinterpret cultural heritage while preserving its identity. Kuwaiti folk traditions, including Al-Sawt, Al-Samri, Al-Khamari and maritime music, reflect Kuwait’s history and social traditions. AI is used to rearrange these works with symphonic orchestration, blending Western orchestral elements with authentic Kuwaiti instruments and rhythms. This approach enables Kuwaiti folk compositions to be presented alongside international works at major concerts and festivals worldwide, overcoming cultural and linguistic barriers. The initiative also offers younger generations a chance to discover Kuwaiti folk music through contemporary arrangements while maintaining original melodies and rhythms. The newly produced works are broadcast on Radio Kuwait’s “Easy” music station on 92.5 FM and 96.5 FM. Al-Sari described the station as ideal for presenting these experiences due to its focus on sophisticated and relaxing music. He stressed that investment in AI-driven cultural projects helps preserve intangible heritage and enhances the global presence of Kuwaiti music.
