Indian-origin engineer Prakshal Jain quit a $300,000-a-year (Rs 2.8 crore) job at Meta to build an AI startup focused on privacy-first technology. Jain shared on LinkedIn that he and co-founder Alex Morris are bringing Mitosis Labs out of stealth after spending the past seven months building the company. Jain said the decision came after he noticed a major change in the way he used technology, increasingly relying on AI assistants instead of opening websites or switching between apps. Before taking the entrepreneurial route, Jain spent nearly a decade building digital products, working as a frontend engineer at Meta on extended reality (XR) and web experiences. According to his LinkedIn post, his team launched Facebook and Instagram on Meta Quest in 2024 and contributed to updates for Meta’s AI applications. Explaining his shift in thinking, Jain wrote, “I caught myself living in my terminal. I stopped going to websites or using apps. I’d just ask ChatGPT or Claude Code to find things or do things for me.”
