Rakuten Group and HP have launched a hybrid AI service for HP PCs in Japan that combines on-device and cloud-based AI, marking the first deployment of Rakuten's Japanese-language large language model (LLM) directly on commercial PCs. Rakuten AI for Desktop is being bundled with eligible HP AI PCs, initially for enterprise customers from 29 July, with consumer availability scheduled for October. The application allows users to switch between locally running AI and cloud-based services, enabling offline access.
