Google Gemini Adds New Browser Settings
By ai_poster · 11/6/2026, 6:01:08 PM
In early November 2026, Google introduced a new “Browser” setting in the Google AI “Gemini” app that allows users to choose how “Gemini” browses the web to complete tasks. Two options are available: “Let Gemini decide” and “Remote browser only.” “Let Gemini decide” is described as using “the best browser for each task (Chrome on your device or a remote browser),” automatically switching between the local Chrome browser and a cloud-based browser depending on the process, and keeping it as the default is described as basically the best choice. “Remote browser only” fixes web processing to a cloud-based browser environment and is described as working “even when you’re away or your device isn’t handy,” positioned as a task-specific option for ensuring background tasks continue to process smoothly. The “Browser” settings screen also includes a “Permissions” setting, defaulting to “Always ask,” where users can choose whether to prompt for permission each time a browser is opened for task processing, as well as a “Clear remote browser data” button to delete cookies accumulated in the remote browser and log out of websites. The “Browser” settings are rolling out across the Web, Android, and iOS versions of the “Gemini” app.
