Google is testing a debug option that sends Android Auto’s hotword, push-to-talk and on-screen mic activation directly into Gemini Live, according to a teardown of Google app 17.72.13. The option is labeled “Enable Gemini Live only on Android Auto,” and its description states: “Hotword, push-to-talk, and on-screen mic start Gemini Live. Other entry points are unchanged.” Gemini Live on Android Auto is already public—Google announced the capability in May 2025—and the update concerns how users start a Live conversation through Android Auto’s standard voice controls. The teardown found the new debug option describing direct Live activation from those controls, extending an existing feature present in the app’s code since June 23, 2026, or earlier. The title and summary define the scope: the routing change applies to Android Auto, while other entry points retain their existing behavior. The strings describe a debug option; they do not establish a rollout or show that Google plans to offer it as a regular setting.
