Michael Saylor: AI Spending Is a Headwind for Bitcoin - Strategy (NAS…

Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy Inc (NASDAQ:MSTR), said on the company’s second-quarter earnings call that the artificial intelligence boom is creating an overlooked challenge for Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC). Saylor argued that massive investment flowing into AI infrastructure from companies such as Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX), Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG), Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META), Anthropic and OpenAI is temporarily diverting capital that could otherwise go into Bitcoin. He called the AI build-out the biggest of five headwinds weighing on the cryptocurrency, citing "$1 trillion or more of capital that are flowing into the data center build-out" and creating "a capital suction in the equity capital markets and also an attraction in the private credit markets." Saylor said the AI infrastructure spending cycle will eventually mature, reducing competition for capital, and "that headwind will become neutral… or it’ll subside." He also cited global trade tensions, the disruption caused by the Gulf War, restrictive Federal Reserve policy and delays in U.S. crypto legislation as other headwinds. Despite these challenges, Saylor remains constructive on Bitcoin’s outlook, arguing each headwind could eventually turn into a tailwind.
