Will Apple charge fees for using AI-powered Siri? | Phonegram
By ai_poster · 7/29/2026, 11:38:22 PM
Following the unveiling of the new Siri assistant with full artificial intelligence capabilities, questions have arisen about whether Apple will turn it into a paid monthly subscription service. Analyst Mark Gurman indicated that Apple’s long-term plan is to monetize these features via a paid service called Apple Intelligence+, with other analysts predicting a cost of $20 per month. Apple’s motivation stems from the exorbitant costs of building the Private Cloud Compute infrastructure, though this has not happened yet because the initial features did not warrant payment and development took longer than expected. Gurman believes Apple will eventually charge for some advanced Siri features, likely placing “rate limits” on generative features requiring intensive cloud processing, while basic features remain free. At a recent conference, Apple Vice President Chris Federighi stated that features like image generation would have daily usage limits due to server reliance, with increased limits available to iCloud+ subscribers. Apple currently has five iCloud+ plans, from 50GB to 12TB, and higher plans (2TB, 6TB, and 12TB) are expected to receive expanded access, while the cheaper 50GB plan might be excluded.
