Designer Alisher Ashimov’s Kira project reimagines the original 1984 Macintosh as an open-source AI desk companion. Housed inside a miniature replica of the Macintosh, Kira functions as a voice-activated AI assistant with an expressive OLED display for animated facial reactions. The device is powered by accessible hardware components and fabricated using Light Khaki matte PLA to replicate vintage beige tones. Measuring approximately 80 millimeters wide, it reproduces defining characteristics such as rounded upper corners, a recessed display area, horizontal ventilation slots, and a decorative floppy disk drive. The project highlights growing interest in open-source AI development and the enduring appeal of retro computing aesthetics.
