How Wall Street is bankrolling Anthropic

Wall Street is bankrolling Anthropic through a $200bn financing programme assembled by Alphabet [GOOGL] to supply AI chips, according to a Financial Times report. The structure, described as “one of the largest infrastructure financings ever assembled,” combines Google’s TPU chips with private credit and data centre financing, involving Broadcom [AVGO], Apollo Global Management [APO], Blackstone [BX] and Morgan Stanley [MS]. Google guarantees the facilities, Broadcom supports chip procurement, and Apollo and Blackstone fund hardware. Separately, OpenAI is preparing a new AI model family codenamed Astra, designed to handle complex tasks by coordinating multiple AI agents, with CEO Sam Altman recently demonstrating it to US policymakers. Astra is expected to be among the first models reviewed under the Trump administration’s planned AI oversight framework. AstraZeneca [AZN] shares fell 9% after reports it is in talks to acquire Bristol Myers Squibb [BMY], a deal that would create the world’s fourth-largest pharmaceutical company with a combined value approaching $400bn.
