As of last month, ChatGPT led South Korea’s generative AI market with 16.45 million monthly active users (MAU), followed by Claude at 1.42 million and SKT’s adot at 1.2 million, according to Mobile Index data published on August 4, 2026. Perplexity recorded 610,000 MAU, Grok 510,000, Wrtn 230,000, and Google Gemini 150,000, based on mobile apps combining Android and iOS users, excluding PC usage. Claude saw the biggest MAU increase this year, rising from about 150,000 at the start of the year to surpass 600,000 in March and 1 million in April, adding an average of about 200,000 MAU monthly. ChatGPT, after surpassing 10 million MAU in April last year, hit a record high of 16.64 million in June but fell by about 200,000 last month. Most other services declined: Perplexity lost about 200,000 MAU over the year, Grok shed about 200,000 from early this year, adot fell by 460,000, and Wrtn plunged by 850,000. Analysts say the market is reshaping into a two-strong structure centered on ChatGPT and Claude, with ChatGPT maintaining dominance via a lock-in effect and Claude absorbing office workers and developers through strong language processing, coding, and reasoning. Industry
