The Apple Store app will soon add an AI-powered "Virtual Shopping Assistant" to help with shopping decisions, according to a change in Apple's privacy policy reported by MacRumors. The policy states that Apple "collects and stores your account information, device identifiers, carrier information, chat information, and where enabled, location data to personalize the chat experience, provide relevant responses, and if you opt in, to improve the virtual shopping assistant." Apple removes personal identifiers from chats before sharing them with partners, using the data only to improve conversational responses. Users cannot fully opt out, but can control whether Apple uses chats to improve the experience by going to Account > Settings and tapping Chat Improvements within the app. The virtual assistant is not yet live in the Apple Store app. This follows Apple's earlier addition of an AI bot to the Apple Support app, though that feature also is not live for all users.
