A firebomb was thrown at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's San Francisco mansion in the early hours of Friday morning, and threats were also made against the company's headquarters. A spokesperson for OpenAI stated: "Early this morning, someone threw a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's home and also made threats at our San Francisco headquarters. Thankfully, no one was hurt." The San Francisco Police Department (SFDP) said they were contacted in the early hours of morning "regarding a fire investigation" where Altman owns a $27 million, 9,500-square-foot mansion. Police reported an unknown man had thrown "an incendiary destructive device at a home, causing a fire to an exterior gate," with the call coming in at around 4.12am PT. OpenAI staff were informed via email that at approximately 3:45am PT, an unidentified individual approached the residence and threw an incendiary device that extinguished, with no injuries and only minimal damage. Later, at 5.07am PT, SFPD received a call regarding an unknown male subject threatening to burn down a building near OpenAI's headquarters. A man aged 20 was taken into custody, recognized as the same suspect from the earlier incident. The case remains an open and active investigation, and Altman has not released a public statement since the attack.
