A recent analysis suggests that Multi Layer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs) could become the next major bottleneck in the artificial intelligence supply chain. According to a note from Goldman Sachs, the MLCC market is valued at approximately 15 billion dollars, with a subset of about 1.3 billion dollars related to AI servers. In terms of cost within an AI server, MLCCs are now ranked third, behind only GPUs and memory. MLCCs function as extremely small and fast units for storing and releasing electrical energy, smoothing out sudden changes in power and acting as electrical noise filters. In large AI racks, up to 600,000 capacitors may be required for stable system operation. Key manufacturers dominating the advanced MLCC market include Murata Manufacturing, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Taiyo Yuden, while TDK records strong demand in high-voltage applications.
