Amodei co-founded Anthropic in 2021 largely as a rejection of the values that drove OpenAI at the time, with reports suggesting he was frustrated by the willingness to bypass crucial safety measures, like the slowing of updates to prevent malicious use of AI. Critics of Anthropic point out that despite positioning itself as a safety-first AI company, engineers are releasing increasingly powerful models—including Mythos lately—that threaten to undermine safety if they get into the wrong hands.
