Mott MacDonald staff have created more than 8,000 AI agents via Microsoft Copilot, supporting project assurance, stakeholder engagement, design automation and data-driven decision-making, Construction Management reported. In an interview with Microsoft, MottMac global head of AI and data Nasrine Tomasi detailed the staggered Copilot roll-out, which began with 50 licences last year before expanding to 1,000 and then 5,000 licences, with half of the new licences in the second stage going to early-career professionals. Examples include an airport project agent that helped work through around 220,000 requirements and flag about 200 conflicts, and Copilot-supported analysis on a large underground station showing temporary works could safely form part of the permanent structure, reducing additional construction. A hydropower team has built agents to help prepare business proposals, assembling requirements, calculating budgets and matching company capabilities, with a target to cut the average proposal process from one week to 48 hours. Tomasi said the teams are winning more work as a result. Challenges include overlapping solutions, dormant agents and knowledge gaps when creators leave or change roles, and MottMac is creating a central AI library. Its original AI assistant, EMMA, is now being deployed in business processes, including monthly project reviews; more than 10,000 lessons have been captured since the app launched in May.
