At the launch of the National Semiconductor Chip Prototype Support Center (VNMPW/CC) on June 26, experts advised Vietnam to prioritize Edge AI, IoT, and chiplet technologies. Vietnam's semiconductor ecosystem includes around 60 chip design companies, 7,000 engineers, and 166 universities, but its research and tape-out infrastructure remains limited, with each tape-out costing between US$30,000 and US$200,000 and waiting times of 12 to 24 months. Nguyen Thi Bich Yen, Chairwoman of VSAP Lab, stated Vietnam should focus on three product groups: Edge AI chips or neural processing units (NPUs) optimized for Vietnamese language and domestic applications; microcontroller units (MCUs) and system-on-chip (SoC) products for IoT with hardware security; and simple functional chiplets, test vehicles, and related packaging technologies.
