How the Premier League with Microsoft AI Guides FPL Managers

The Premier League and Microsoft are using generative AI to transform Fantasy Premier League (FPL) for more than 13 million managers, launching the Fantasy Premier League Companion. This new conversational AI feature, built on Microsoft technology including Microsoft Foundry, Azure OpenAI and gen AI based on ChatGPT 5.4, acts as an intelligent sounding board for squad decisions. It combines official Premier League match statistics with FPL transfer and performance trends to deliver tailored, data-backed guidance while leaving final squad decisions to human managers. Darren Hardman, CEO of Microsoft UK & Ireland, stated the Companion is designed to help managers make more informed decisions, bringing together official Premier League data, personalised team context and conversational AI. The tool processes two datasets: match data (goals, assists, appearances, cards, minutes played, tackles, shots in the box) and FPL game data (transfer trends, captaincy choices, chip usage). It answers specific player queries, such as identifying potential replacements based on recent form and upcoming fixtures, but is designed to support human managers rather than run squads automatically.
