As of August 2026, Chinese AI video generation models, including ByteDance Seedance, Kuaishou Keling, Alibaba Wanxiang, Tencent Hunyuan, MiniMax Hailuo, and Shengshu Technology Vidu, have formed a dense competitive landscape, competing head-to-head with overseas models in multimodal input, native audio, generation speed, product pricing, and commercialization. The industry's focus has shifted from "whether it can make an image move" to questions of character consistency, complex action understanding, automatic storyboarding, synchronous dialogue, music and ambient sound generation, and direct integration into advertising, short drama, game, and film production workflows. Early AI videos were often "stunning at first glance, breaking immersion at the second glance," with deformed fingers, drifting objects, and changing faces, making them unsuitable for real production. Over the past two years, progress has occurred in four directions, with the first being subject consistency, where models can lock in characters, costumes, scenes, and visual styles through character images, video clips, voices, and style references. Vidu takes subject consistency as a core capability.
