Proton Introduces Lumo 2.0 With Privacy-Focused Upgrade to Its AI Ass…

On Tuesday, Proton introduced Lumo 2.0, the second iteration of its privacy‑first AI assistant. Lumo 2.0 uses new reasoning models that respond faster and handle complex, multi‑step queries better than the previous version. Proton positions Lumo as a chatbot-style assistant offering "intelligence without surveillance" by storing data under Swiss privacy laws with zero-access encryption. The new Lumo allows users to upload images, such as photos and charts, and then ask questions or request edits, and can also generate new images and turn rough drawings into polished visuals. Lumo searches the internet for live information and provides sources for each response. The update increases Lumo's context window and adds user-controlled long-term memory, allowing it to remember preferences, work style, and ongoing projects. Proton says it keeps logs off and does not train models on user data. Lumo's free tier gives core private AI access, while Lumo Plus adds unlimited chats, projects, and image generation. Lumo Professional and Lumo for Business are for teams and enterprises with admin controls.
