Paul Schrader Thinks AI Movie Stars Are Coming and Hollywood is Not R…

Paul Schrader, the writer of *Taxi Driver*, speaking at the AI on the Lot conference, predicted that AI-generated actors will become the next big box office attraction, stating that "the real tip of the spear is when we can create an AI protagonist, not a hybrid, and that movie makes money." He described a scenario where one could create a new Clint Eastwood via AI by describing him without using the name, arguing that the resulting film would have audiences "empathizing and caring about silicon-based creations." Schrader's comments came a day after Albert Cheng, head of AI studios for Amazon MGM Studios, discussed a more cautious approach involving human performers. Schrader, who has wanted to make a fully AI-generated feature film, pointed to the project *Dreams of Violets*, headed to the Tribeca Festival next month, as an example of where things are heading. He also read sections from an eight-page AI-generated treatment created in minutes, which centered on a fallen Catholic anti-pornography crusader.
