Elon Musk, despite losing $240 billion in days, used his platform to incite unrest in the United Kingdom. Less than a month ago, Musk posted about the stabbing of 18-year-old Henry Nowak in Southampton, falsely claiming police policy requires racism against Whites, despite the murderer being arrested within eighteen minutes and sentenced to twenty-one years to life. His posts, with nearly 70,000 shares and more than 300,000 likes, preceded riots in Southampton that left eleven police officers injured. Days later, the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) singled out Musk’s “instrumental” role in provoking riots in Belfast, Northern Ireland, after a knife attack by a Sudanese asylum seeker. The victim, Stephen Ogilvie, was hospitalized; 30-year-old Hadi Alodid has been charged with attempted murder. Rioters rampaged through immigrant neighborhoods, smashing windows, torching homes and cars, and forcing residents to flee. Riot police used water cannons to protect a hotel housing asylum seekers, and a dozen officers were injured. According to CCDH data, Musk’s posts on X following the knife attack—and his boosts of posts by Tommy Robinson and Rupert Lowe—had a total of 64.
