On July 8, 2026, xAI launched Grok 4.5, a new frontier model focused on coding. Elon Musk described it on X as “an Opus-class model, but faster, more token-efficient and lower cost.” Grok 4.5 is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, undercutting Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8. The model was made available immediately through Grok Build, Cursor, and xAI’s developer console via API key. xAI’s documentation frames Grok 4.5 as its “smartest model built to excel at coding, agentic tasks, and knowledge work.” The launch targets the coding market dominated by Anthropic’s Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Cursor.
