On July 27, 2026, Moonshot AI released the full open weights of its Kimi K3 model, a 2.8 trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts design, for free download, ten days after unveiling it at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. The timing coincides with Ottawa’s AI for All strategy, six weeks old, aimed at reducing reliance on foreign AI platforms and compute. Toronto-based Cohere has also been shipping its own open-weight models. Kimi K3’s output pricing is $15 per million tokens, roughly 70% below Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.
