Artificial intelligence technology, built on billions of data sources and sophisticated data-gathering, storage and automated analysis, has produced breakthroughs that simulate the decision-making processes of the human mind, though how it will change how people live and work remains less clear, according to Columbia Southern University. The article identifies three ways AI is changing modern business: AI automates repetitive processes, helping organizations avoid burnout in workers by letting AI handle repetitive tasks while bringing more engaging work to the forefront; users must learn AI prompt engineering, since modern AI does not think on its own without human input and getting desired output requires the right input, meaning additional on-the-job training for many; and cybersecurity is evolving, with AI offering benefits such as a powerful processing tool that continually monitors threats and adapts in real time to help limit risks of data theft, ransomware and other digital crimes, while also creating challenges as organizations need new ways to safeguard against AI-augmented threats that can simulate human interaction, and AI may expand demand for skilled cybersecurity workers even as it automates rudimentary security processes. Many AI technologies are more sophisticated versions of applications already used, such as machine learning tools that help find new shows to watch, interact with voice assistants such as Alexa or Siri and plan commutes between home and work, and finding ways to successfully integrate AI into business processes at scale will be the next great challenge for many organizations.
