Claude Cowork could finally make AI agents make sense

Claude Cowork offers a middle ground between standard AI chatbots and Claude Code, making agentic AI more accessible to everyday users. While a standard AI chatbot can answer questions and provide summaries, it cannot take action on behalf of the user, such as opening menus or typing commands. Claude Code can take action, working through tasks step-by-step, editing files, running commands, and repeating the process, but it often requires familiarity with concepts like repositories, diffs, and permissions that may be daunting for non-coders. Claude Cowork gives Claude agentic abilities focused on work beyond coding, allowing users to delegate tasks that involve letting Claude work somewhat independently. For example, the author used Claude Cowork to tidy up a messy Downloads folder containing images, screenshots, app installers, music files, and video files. After granting permission via a pop-up, Claude sorted everything into subfolders such as Screenshots, DMGs, Music, and Video.
