Elon Musk has reversed his previous criticism of Anthropic, now praising the company after a partnership deal. In recent weeks, Musk called Anthropic "clearly wrong about Anthropic" in an X post on Thursday, stating "They are obviously currently the leader in AI. No company has released a model as good as Mythos/Fable and they will undoubtedly have Mythos 2 ready soon." This follows a May deal between SpaceX and Anthropic giving Anthropic access to compute capacity from SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center, including more than 300 megawatts of capacity or more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs. SpaceX's S-1 filing showed Anthropic agreed to pay $1.25 billion a month through May 2029 for compute power, with either side able to terminate with 90 days' notice. Musk had previously called Anthropic "hypocritical," "woke," and an inevitable loser, accusing it of stealing training data "at massive scale" and writing that "Anthropic hates Western Civilization." In response to an X user who said SpaceX now has a "legitimate frontier model" and that Musk could cut off Anthropic, Musk replied he "would never cut them off in a way that hurt them badly, even as a competitor," adding "That's not my style." Musk also stated he spent time with senior Anthropic team members and was impressed.
