Billionaire David Friedberg challenged Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) on Monday, asking Khanna to “make a voluntary contribution of 5% of your family’s $200M net worth to the government,” which Friedberg said would yield $10 million and help over 1,000 California kids access free childcare for a year. The exchange began after Khanna criticized Friedberg for alleging Khanna was establishing a “Politburo” with Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Khanna had asked Friedberg if he opposed OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s “Universal Basic Capital of 2.5 percent” on AI companies for a “dividend to Americans.” Separately, Khanna over the weekend criticized Elon Musk, saying Musk cut funding for USAID during his time with DOGE, impacting healthcare for over 4.5 million children globally, and demanded Musk be “subpoenaed” and investigated. Musk called Khanna an “evil liar.”
