VAST Data announced in November 24 that it was supplying storage to Elon Musk's xAI, now SpaceXSI, Colossus datacenter, with DDN following suit, and it has more than 1 EB of capacity for training and checkpoint data. Colossus 2 is multiple datacenters with names including Macrohard, announced in March, Digital Optimus, Macroharder, Minihard, GunRange and Spam. Macroharder and Minihard both have c220,000 Nvidia GB200 GPUs with 800 Gb NICS and are configured for AI training. Five datacenters form the Colossus 2 cluster, all located in a region just east of the Mississippi river, where the south west corner of Tennessee meets the north west corner of Mississippi, basically in the Memphis-to-Southaven-to-Tulane Road area. GunRange, on Tulane Road on a site previously owned by the Southaven police department, will have c 220,000 GB200s and 800 gig NICS for AI training workloads and will be operational by the end of this month. Spam, a former cold-storage and food-distribution warehouse site at 2929 Stateline Road West in Southaven owned by Hormel Foods, has slightly fewer GPUs, c200,000 GB300s, is being built for inferencing work and will come fully online by the end of December.
