OpenAI’s new AI smart speaker, described as the “physical manifestation” of ChatGPT, will reportedly be “donut-shaped” and sell for between $300 and $400 per unit, according to Bloomberg. The device, designed to be carried around the home and placed in locations like a bedside table or kitchen counter, will be constructed from “high-quality metal,” have a “premium look,” and feature distinct “moving parts.” For comparison, most of Amazon’s smart home speakers range in price from $40 to $240. The device is being developed in partnership with LoveFrom, the design studio founded by former Apple developer Jony Ive, and will likely be released at some point in 2027. OpenAI is being sued by Apple, which has accused the AI lab of stealing trade secrets; OpenAI has denied wrongdoing.
