Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said waqf institutions and Islamic dakwah movements in Malaysia must embrace modern technology, including digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI), to remain relevant amid global modernisation, while balancing such mastery with strengthening faith, moral character and humanitarian values. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2026 International Waqf Dakwah Convention at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, he warned that AI, new technologies, information technology and quantum computing without values and moral character will erode humanity, dignity and ethics. He commended the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) and the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) for adopting a progressive and prudent approach to dakwah. Anwar expressed support for modernising the waqf ecosystem, describing the convention’s resolutions as proposals to be studied by the government before submission to the Cabinet and the Conference of Rulers. The 2026 International Waqf Dakwah Convention adopted three key resolutions: establishing a working consortium to strengthen waqf institutions, utilising technology and digitalisation in waqf management, and strengthening the waqf ecosystem through more effective governance and strategic collaboration.
