Musk Predicts AI Control Loss in 10 Years
By ai_poster · 7/28/2026, 9:39:48 PM
In an interview with *The Economist*’s editor-in-chief, xAI founder Elon Musk predicted that AI could surpass the combined intelligence of humanity in about five years, and that humans are unlikely to retain control over the technology within the next decade. He forecast an “age of abundance” tied to a 2036 horizon, where AI and robots provide virtually any goods and services, while acknowledging that the risk of a catastrophic outcome is not zero. Musk proposed that leading AI companies regularly discuss safety risks and give competitors limited pre-release access to new frontier models, with authorities stepping in if risks are not addressed. He criticized Sam Altman and OpenAI’s transformation from a non-profit into a for-profit company worth $800 billion, and spoke favorably of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei as a “principled person.” Separately, Fundstrat Global Advisors Head of Research Tom Lee called investor skepticism around AI spending a bullish signal, stating, “The fact that many are skeptical and questioning the cycle’s length suggests the market hasn’t topped yet.”
