Apple has clarified that its revamped Siri AI, developed in cooperation with Google, does not directly embed Google’s Gemini model or search functionality. The collaboration is limited to underlying model development and training methods, with Apple using Gemini technology and outputs from advanced Gemini models to improve its own Foundation Models. The final AI models were developed and optimised by Apple itself. Siri AI consists of foundation models that run locally on compatible devices for simple tasks, while more complex commands are handled via Apple’s own cloud infrastructure. Only for the most computationally intensive tasks can Google infrastructure be used, with Apple stating privacy protection is preserved. Apple distinguishes between the technology behind an AI model and the user experience, noting that Google supplies part of the technical foundation while Apple handles integration with iOS, operation, privacy measures, app linking, and answer generation. Consequently, Apple maintains that Siri remains a distinct product, not a version of Gemini with a different interface.
