Chinese AI models claimed all top five spots in OpenRouter’s latest weekly usage ranking, with DeepSeek’s V4 Flash leading at 7.22 trillion tokens, followed by Xiaomi’s MiMo V2.5, Tencent’s Hy3, DeepSeek’s V4 Pro, and Z.ai’s GLM 5.2. The rankings measure total token usage, including prompt and completion tokens. The models rose quickly after release; DeepSeek’s V4 Flash opened API public testing on Friday, while Tencent’s Hy3 was open-sourced on July 6. On Hugging Face, Chinese open-source models led cumulative downloads, with Kimi-K3 first at 968,000 downloads and 9,770 likes, followed by DeepSeek V4 Flash. Analyst Xiang Ligang said the rankings show Chinese large language models are expanding globally and gaining recognition among developers and users. Despite US technological restrictions and export controls, these measures have failed to slow China’s AI innovation, he added. Xiang noted AI competition involves algorithms, data, computing power, application ecosystems, and talent, and that China’s vast data resources, manufacturing ecosystem, and application scenarios enable rapid deployment in finance, manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare. By the end of 2025, China had more than 6,000 AI companies.
