SpaceX Prototypes Slim Consumer AI Device

According to The Wall Street Journal, SpaceX showed investors and other stakeholders a prototype "handset-like" AI device ahead of its recent initial public offering, described as having a sleek design that is slimmer than an iPhone, running a proprietary operating system, and using xAI technology. The device is planned to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. SpaceX told investors the project is early-stage, that the design could still change, and that it might never ship. Elon Musk has since disputed the story, calling it "utterly false" in a post on X, though SpaceX has not issued a detailed on-the-record rebuttal beyond that denial. TechCrunch reports the device is intended to support Musk's longer-term ambition of an "everything app" combining messaging, payments, shopping, and AI assistance. A Snapdragon-based build would favor power efficiency and integrated modem support over raw compute, suggesting a hybrid architecture offloading heavier inference to the cloud.
