Apple's AI plans could kill off the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips - Stuff S…

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is preparing its next M-series chips, with the M6 expected to debut inside the base 14in MacBook Pro as soon as this year. However, Apple will reportedly deviate from its usual playbook by skipping the Pro and Max variants of the M6 and moving directly to the M7 line-up. Mark Gurman stated that the company is taking this unusual step to fast-track technologies originally planned for later release, in order to meet growing demand for on-device AI capabilities and more graphics-intensive software. The M7 will not skip the Pro and Max refresh in 2027. This would be the first time Apple has not introduced Pro and Max variants for its in-house M chipsets. The M6 chip will utilise TSMC’s 2nm process, an upgrade over the 3nm process seen with the M5 line-up. Gurman suggested the M6 will have higher memory bandwidth at approximately 200GB/s to speed up on-device AI tasks and improve graphics performance. The M6 MacBook Pro will also be the first of the family to gain touchscreen OLED powers.
