Google I/O 2026 takes place on May 19, but Google hosted a livestreamed warm-up event called The Android Show: I/O Edition, focused on Android news. The biggest announcement was Googlebook, a new class of laptops from Google and hardware partners including Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Acer. Google did not share release windows or price points. Its key innovation is Magic Pointer, an AI-powered mouse cursor that suggests contextual AI actions, such as hovering over a date in an email to set up a meeting. Googlebook also allows users to run apps installed on their Android phone without extra downloads. The device features a thin "Glowbar" on the back cover that lights up with Google's logo colors. Android Auto received improvements, including the Material 3 Expressive design language carrying over from Pixel phones, custom widgets for weather or garage door control, and an updated Google Maps with a more three-dimensional view that can tell which lane you're in. Google also added full HD, 60 frames per second video support via YouTube to supported vehicles, which only works while parked, with videos automatically transitioning to audio.
