Microsoft Unifies Copilot Across Personal and Work Accounts
By ai_poster · 8/13/2026, 3:53:50 PM
Microsoft is merging personal and work Copilot experiences into a single Microsoft Copilot app, introducing a new name, icon, and web address. The update aims to reduce fragmentation and confusion for users switching between account types by providing clear account indicators, a unified brand, and a simplified user experience. The redesigned app combines Copilot chat and image generation, offers access to Microsoft 365 apps, and integrates with email, calendars, cloud storage, and other connected content sources. Enhanced AI capabilities and higher usage limits are included for Microsoft 365 subscribers. Desktop apps for Windows and macOS will move to a newer architecture. Organizations will retain all existing security, compliance, governance, and administrative controls, with existing policies, application IDs, data protection measures, and network configurations continuing to work as expected. Most chats, generated images, and other Copilot-created content will be automatically migrated, and files uploaded or generated through Copilot will be stored in OneDrive. Privacy protections, compliance safeguards, and data separation between personal and work accounts remain unchanged. The rollout begins this month for web and mobile users worldwide, with the new copilot.cloud.microsoft web address becoming available around the same time. Changes will be introduced in phases over the next few months.
