Anthropic is highlighting Claude Code’s in-app browser on the desktop, as announced by the ClaudeDevs account on X on July 10, 2026. The in-app browser allows Claude to pull up docs, designs, or any other site, and it can read, click through, and interact the same way it does with local dev servers. It is sandboxed and configurable, with users choosing whether sessions persist. This announcement follows OpenAI’s plans to sunset its ChatGPT Atlas browser in favor of the new ChatGPT desktop app’s in-app browser. Both Anthropic and OpenAI also have Chrome extensions for integrating their AI tools with Google’s browser. Anthropic’s documentation explains that the Browser pane uses a clean browser profile, separate from a personal browser, with none of the user’s saved logins or history, and is intended for building and testing apps and sites that do not need identity. For logged-in sessions, the Claude in Chrome extension is recommended, as it shares the browser’s login state.
