Google Cloud has partnered with SandboxAQ, an AI and quantum technology firm that spun out of Alphabet in March 2022, to distribute SandboxAQ’s specialist AI models through Google Cloud’s infrastructure and marketplace. The deal, announced on January 21, 2025, designates Google Cloud as SandboxAQ’s preferred cloud provider. SandboxAQ builds Large Quantitative Models designed to simulate real-world physical phenomena, with primary application areas including drug discovery, chemistry, materials science, sensing, and cybersecurity. The Google Cloud Marketplace integration simplifies procurement for enterprise clients. SandboxAQ has raised over $950 million in total funding, with a Series E completed in April 2025 bringing in $450 million, including participation from Google, NVIDIA, and BNP Paribas. Following that funding, SandboxAQ’s valuation sits in the range of $5.6 billion to $5.75 billion. The partnership reflects a broader shift of cloud giants acting as distribution infrastructure for third-party models serving specific verticals, with SandboxAQ’s post-quantum cryptography tools addressing cryptographic migration needs for enterprises and governments.
