According to an Axios report cited by Key Context author Tae Kim, AI companies OpenAI and Anthropic are on track to generate more annual revenue than some of America's oldest consumer brands, with a combined annual revenue run rate of around $120 billion, based on data from Funda. Anthropic accounts for around 60% of that combined estimate due to its enterprise business, and is estimated to reach an annual revenue run rate of about $71 billion. At that level, the AI startup would generate more revenue than Starbucks, which reported $37.2 billion in annual revenue, and McDonald's, which generated $26.9 billion, combined. Anthropic's projected revenue would also come close to surpassing the combined revenue of Starbucks, McDonald's and Yum Brands. The report highlights the rapid growth of the AI industry and explains why technology companies continue to spend heavily on AI infrastructure.
