Sungkyunkwan University hosted the 4th Sungkyunkwan University AI Autonomous Driving Competition on Thursday, July 30, at the Semiconductor Building lounge on the Natural Science Campus. The event aimed to nurture core talent in the future mobility sector and was divided into an AI Chip division and a Software (SW) division, with the entire event livestreamed on YouTube. Students from Gyeonggi Automobile Science High School participated as a special team. Participants designed AI-based autonomous driving systems on small electric vehicles roughly one-fifth the size of an actual car, equipped with cameras, LiDAR, and ultrasonic sensors. The competition featured a "driving race" and a "mission race." A total of 51 teams (228 participants) competed in the preliminary round, with 30 teams (128 participants) advancing to the final. Around 50 attendees, including President Jibeom Yoo, industry experts, and professors, were present. The Grand Prize (SKKU President's Award) went to Team "Eunjeya Hyundai Gaja" in the SW division and Team "425" in the AI Chip division. The competition served as a hands-on educational platform for developing autonomous driving systems.
