He Watched AI Take His Job. Now He's Teaching MBAs To Stop Fearing It
By ai_poster · 6/29/2026, 5:06:03 AM
Pepe Alonso, a former software engineer who saw his coding skills being made redundant by AI, is now teaching MBA students at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley to stop fearing the technology. Alonso, who is the vice president of education for the AI Club at Haas and an intern at Google, is slated to teach a module in Haas’s Fundamentals of AI class in the fall, lead a formal elective, and co-instruct a section in an EECS course. He enrolled in a master’s program in artificial intelligence while applying for his MBA, concluding that even strong AI expertise alone was not enough in a Bay Area startup ecosystem that invests in credentials like “Berkeley, Stanford, Harvard.” He built into his Haas application a presentation summarizing the uptick in MBA internship postings that specified machine learning experience. Alonso argues that “MBA students are way more aligned to this new AI world” than engineers, reasoning that large language models amplify existing capabilities and translate effort into outcomes companies can measure.
