Singapore-based AI robotics company Sharpa announced its Wave dexterous hand served as core verification hardware, mounted on Apptronik's Apollo 2 robot to complete tasks such as tying trash bags, unscrewing light bulbs, and sealing resealable bags. The demonstration highlighted Google DeepMind's new model, Gemini Robotics 2, released in late July, which unifies vision, language, and motion control for whole-body coordination. Unlike previous models focused on upper-body movement, Gemini Robotics 2 achieves end-to-end control of the entire humanoid body and supports multi-robot collaboration. In a pre-recorded demonstration, the model guided Apptronik's Apollo robot to pick up a watering can and place it on a shelf while navigating around obstacles. Google DeepMind also released two additional models, Gemini Robotics ER 2 and On-Device 2, which can work together or independently for multi-step task planning and robot coordination. Sharpa, founded in 2024 by Hesai Technology's co-founders Li Yifan, Xiang Shaoqing, and Sun Kai, has global headquarters in Singapore, manufacturing and R&D centers in Shanghai, and commercial operations in Mountain View, California.
