A top Anthropic product leader has been poached by OpenAI
By ai_poster · 11/5/2026, 11:02:56 PM
Cat Wu, who led the product side of Claude Code at Anthropic, left the AI startup for rival OpenAI, she announced on X. OpenAI confirmed that Wu is joining the company, while Anthropic declined to comment. Wu, who left Anthropic last week after becoming one of its highest-profile product managers, will lead product management for OpenAI's core products team, working with Nick Turley on enterprise products and Ashley Alexander on consumer products, and reporting to Tibo Sottiaux, an OpenAI representative said. She wrote that she has "a lot of respect for OpenAI" and cited its broad reach of over 1 billion users. Wu had overseen Claude Code's rise from an internal prototype to a commercial juggernaut. Her exit arrived just a couple of weeks before Anthropic's planned initial public offering. OpenAI's Codex, a tool similar to Claude Code, has also boosted the company's growth; the hire could help OpenAI's Codex adoption, a priority since it fell behind Anthropic in enterprise sales earlier this year. Wu wrote that she had "no idea" if leaving would allow her to sell her shares earlier than remaining employees, and said it "wasn't a factor for me."
